Shelling Peanuts

IMG_3651

We chase conversations,

Crunching bags of eager peanuts

You dust promises

into spaces between cracked shells

Together we jostle dreams

settling into scattered skin and chaff

Smiling in acknowledgment

Symbiotic glances, like peanut and salt

Bringing stories together

Nutty anecdotes coated in toasty flavors

Seeds break out of their comfort

Nostalgic taste punctuating sentences

Memories become escapades

Smacking salt off our fingers

Relishing a kernel routine

Collecting moments in papery skins

You stoke the fireplace

Empty the sack of  remnants

Crumbling husk settles cautiously

On book jackets and baskets of wool

Before we retreat into ourselves

A cheerful aroma lingers behind

  1. Smacking salt off our fingers and collecting moments in papery skins -beautifully express the nostalgia of being togather and having a informal &simple ” gapshap” before retreat.
The fast moving life ,& break up of family ties havedeprived us from these simple joys of life these days.
This poem would touch the heart all such readers who have relished such moments of intimate togathrnness at some time in their life. Profound feelings of yesteryears have been expressed ln,a simple imagery . Shelling peanuts is indeed, A heartwarming poem wah wah Papa
